Take note: The key to meaningful conversations lies not only in the questions asked but also in active listening and genuine engagement.

By combining thoughtful questions with attentive listening, you can create an environment conducive to valuable exchanges.
These are, in my opinion, the best three for forging great conversations. Feel free to make them your own, adapting the pitch and form to how you would normally speak.
1. “What inspired you to pursue [field or industry]?”
Imagine the sparkle in someone’s eyes
as they share the story of their journey—their triumphs, their hurdles, and the driving force behind their passion.
By asking this question, you unlock the door to a realm of shared experiences and heartfelt connections.
Discover the inspiration that fuels others and create a space where stories intertwine.
What’s great about this question, is that most people don’t typically reflect on why they do the things they do.
By asking the question, you provide them the gift of articulating this and helping them understand themselves better.
2. “Tell me about a pivotal moment or turning point in your career/business journey.”
Each one of us has experienced transformative moments—the crossroads that define who we are today. By encouraging others to share their pivotal moments, you open the gateway to deeper conversations.
Unveil the lessons they’ve learned, the values they hold dear, and the strength that fuels their resilience. This question unveils vulnerabilities, forges trust, and builds bonds.
They are memorable, making further touch points in the future (for example, ‘hey, would you like to meet for coffee/ ‘e’-coffee?) easier.
3 “What excites (or scares) you most about the future of [your industry or field]?”
The future is brimming with possibility and innovation. By peering into it together, we uncover shared aspirations, uncharted territories, and ground-breaking ideas.
Invite others to paint their visions and be prepared to join them on a path where collaboration (you know my feelings on this) is queen .
