Top 10 TED Talks 2024 (WBW’s Playlist)

TED Talks have become a global phenomenon, offering a platform for brilliant minds to share innovative ideas and personal stories. But with so many talks available, where do you begin?  

This list explores ten TED Talks that have the potential to shift your perspective and inspire you to create positive change. (Updated). 

1. Brené Brown – “The Power of Vulnerability”

With her work based on two decades of research. Brene Brown is popularly known for her TED Talk “The Power of Vulnerability”. 

Daring to be vulnerable can feel risky. Some of us associate vulnerability with weakness, shame, and uncertainty. But Brené Brown argues that it’s the key to deeper connections and a more fulfilling life.  

What more? Her research debunks the myth that vulnerability equals weakness. Instead, she shows that vulnerability is the birthplace of joy, belonging, creativity, authenticity, and love.

2. Amy Cuddy – “Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are”

Your posture isn’t just about how you stand; it can influence your confidence and even your hormones. Amy Cuddy, a Social psychologist explores the power of body language and how a simple “power pose” can transform your self-perception and influence others.  

Through fascinating research, Cuddy demonstrates that holding powerful poses for just two minutes can increase testosterone, a hormone linked to dominance and power, and decrease cortisol, a stress hormone. 

This TED talk will inspire you to be mindful of your body language and leverage its power to boost your confidence and performance.

3. Kelly McGonigal – “How to Make Stress Your Friend”

We often view stress as the enemy, something to be avoided at all costs. But Kelly McGonigal, a health psychologist, offers a surprising perspective.  

By changing how you view stress, you can actually harness its power to improve your health and performance. McGonigal explains that our perception of stress plays a significant role in its impact on our bodies. 

When we view stress as a challenge we can rise to rather than a threat, our stress response can actually be beneficial, boosting our immune system and helping us perform better under pressure.

4. Carol Dweck – “The Mindset: The New Psychology of Success”

Do you believe your abilities are fixed, or can you grow and develop? Carol Dweck, a Stanford psychologist, explores the concept of a growth mindset, explaining how this simple shift in thinking can unlock your potential and fuel a lifetime of learning.  

Dweck identifies two mindsets: fixed and growth. People with a fixed mindset believe their talents and abilities are set in stone, while those with a growth mindset believe they can develop and improve with effort. 

This TED talk will inspire you to embrace a growth mindset, fostering a love of learning and perseverance in the face of challenges.

5. Tim Urban – “Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator” 

We’ve all been there: putting things off until the last minute, scrolling through social media instead of tackling that important task.  

Tim Urban, a writer and blogger, delivers a hilarious and insightful TED talk that explores the psychology of procrastination.  

He introduces the concept of the “Instant Gratification Monkey” that sits on our shoulder, whispering sweet nothings of short-term pleasure that keep us from focusing on long-term goals.

6. Andrew Solomon – “Depression, the Secret We Share”

8. Gavin de Becker – “The Gift of Fear”

Our intuition often tries to warn us of danger, but we sometimes ignore it due to politeness, social conditioning, or simply not wanting to believe something bad could happen.  

Gavin de Becker, a security expert who has protected celebrities and public figures for decades, argues that fear can be a valuable gift, teaching us to recognize and avoid threats.  

He exposes the warning signs of violence that we often dismiss and emphasizes the importance of listening to our gut instincts.  

De Becker’s TED talk will empower you to trust your intuition and take action to protect yourself in potentially dangerous situations.

9. Hans Rosling – “The Best Stats You’ve Ever Seen”

10. Aaron Stark – “I Was Almost a School Shooter”

School shootings are a devastating tragedy, leaving deep scars on communities and families.  Aaron Stark, a mental health advocate, shares his harrowing story of coming close to committing a school shooting.  

He speaks openly about the struggles he faced as a teenager, including bullying, depression, and feelings of isolation. Stark’s TED talk is a powerful call to action, urging us to recognize the signs of trouble in young people and create communities that support them.  

He emphasizes the importance of open communication, mental health awareness, and intervention programs to prevent future tragedies.
